Breath work – Release Inner Tension

I learned this from a course I took with Colleen Saidman-Yee. When we are going through times of personal growth, it can create a lot of inner tension, and instead of reaching forward we can often reach back and hold onto habits that don’t really serve us.

This exercise is to help dissipate inner tension, and where we might reach for something to numb the discomfort or unwanted feeling, try this instead.

Breathe in 3 parts; taking in your breath in three little sips, 1, 2, 3, and letting it be easy.
Just observe the breath, counting in your evenly divided inhales, 1, 2, 3. It becomes delicious, almost like a game. Playful, easy, our mind is on filling up with something to be savored instead of focusing on what is uncomfortable. Do this for a few minutes.

This first part helps explore the tight spaces in your body with your breath. The second part is about filling up and exploring the vast space you have within. Take a few breaths in. All the way to your belly or toes and audibly sigh it out.

Now breath into, with love into each part of your body you feel tension. Do this for a few minutes.
Now play with a smooth regular inhale, and section your exhale OUT into threes. Colleen suggested using the mantra on the out breath of, “let go, let go, let go.”

It is such a beautiful practice, and are left with a feeling of grace and harmony within.
